Natural
Overview
This natural garden design in Faversham, Kent was created to bring nature, sustainability, and relaxed outdoor living to a modern, characterful home. The clients wanted a garden that felt authentic and resilient rather than overly polished, allowing planting and materials to weather naturally over time.
The result is a calm, nature-led garden that balances practicality with ecological value.
The Brief
The clients asked for a Faversham garden design that would support biodiversity and reflect their values around sustainability.
Key requirements included:
A natural, rustic garden aesthetic
Resilient, low-intervention planting
A design that complemented a modern, quirky house
No overly formal or high-design layout
A new rear parking area with an electric vehicle charging point
The garden needed to feel welcoming, practical, and grounded in nature.
The Solution
The design approach drew on a Scandinavian-inspired aesthetic, combining simplicity with warmth. Natural materials including limestone, gravel, and timber were selected to create a textured yet contemporary palette.
A route of jagged limestone setts and paved paths leads from the rear parking area into the garden. This journey is softened with succulents and creeping plants that blur the boundary between hardscape and planting.
Features
Raised beds were introduced to provide space for growing small crops, supporting everyday use of the garden. A bespoke timber sofa wraps around a Corten steel fire pit, forming an inviting focal point for socialising and evening gatherings.
The planting scheme is generous and naturalistic, designed to support pollinators throughout the seasons. Large planting beds ensure structure, resilience, and a long period of interest, while avoiding the need for intensive maintenance.
Designated areas for outdoor dining, hammock lounging, and informal entertaining are distributed throughout the garden. A large lawn provides space for play, making the garden suitable for both adults and younger family members.
The Result
The completed Faversham garden design is a modern, sustainable landscape that prioritises nature, texture, and everyday enjoyment. By blending practical elements with generous planting and natural materials, the garden offers a relaxed backdrop to family life while supporting biodiversity.
